The Latest Endorsements for Slava!

I had a wonderful first meeting (via Zoom) with my wonderful publicist from Llewellyn Worldwide yesterday. He and I outlined my game plan to promote my book Slava! Slavic Paganism and Dual-Faith Folk Ways (projected release: early February 2026 by Llewellyn Worldwide) over the coming weeks and months both locally in the greater Chicago area for me as well as far beyond Illinois’ borders. The parts of my astrological makeup that are Aquarian are already living well into the future (I can’t help it!), and my middle-aged self knows all too well that the weeks will fly past with ridiculous speed. I will update my Events page here on Circle of Rodu to keep you all apprised of where I’ll be for talks/book signings or who will be interviewing me! It’s all so exciting!

a hearty hvala vam puno! / thank you from the bottom of my heart to authors benjamin stimpson and tiffany lazić, citizens of wales, for their kind words about slava!

I keep wanting to pinch myself that this is all really happening. Two amazing authors whom I respect greatly kindly submitted these ringing endorsements for my book:

Slava! is a richly researched and exquisitely written book that fulfills such an important need, not just from a Pagan perspective, but from a cultural, historical, and sociological one. Right from the first word, I found my heart fully enchanted. Reading even just the acknowledgement and dedication brought me to tears. The deep love which Anna Urošević Applegate brings to her lived experience alongside her breathtakingly vast historical and cultural knowledge has resulted in a brilliantly crafted, important work. A wealth of practical exercises, journal prompts, and traditional practices allows a welcoming pathway into engagement. Urošević Applegate has brilliantly captured just how fluid the influence of belief and practice can be. Even if one had little interest in Pagan practice, this book serves as an important record of historical and cultural patterns and influence. For those who are interested Pagan literature, but find the current array overly weighted to recognizable themes and topics, Slava! is an engrossing read that offers a perspective both familiar and yet rivetingly new. I already know my own copy is going to be a forest of sticky notes.”

Tiffany Lazić, registered psychotherapist and author of Psychopomps and the Soul: Traversing Death and Life for Healing and Wholeness

“In recent years, many practitioners have sought their ancestral roots, seeking to embrace and find a comfortable medium between that which contains both Christian and Pre-Christian.  Dual-Faith practice is an increasingly focused-on trend in the development of current magical and Pagan practice, especially in the Diaspora, and Slava! is a wonderful addition to a growing body of perspectives on this nuanced issue. Rodnovery for a long time has been the purview of the academic, or those fortunate enough not to have lost their mother tongue and still have connection. Slava! invites readers of both Slavic and non-Slav background to learn about the nitty gritty of the traditions and beliefs of a huge area of Europe. More importantly,  Anna Urošević Applegate speaks directly and repeatedly to the question of Dual Faith, a question many readers from many backgrounds are tackling for themselves.”
Benjamin Stimpson, author of Ancestral Whispers and Of Doves & Ravens: The Witches and Wisefolk of Wales and the Borders

As folks who are either my personal friends or who have read the manuscript of Slava! know, I have felt and continue to feel the guiding hands of my beloved family dead, especially my father, in bringing this long-held dream of mine of writing a book about my Serbian spiritual practices and wider Slavic Native and Dual Faith Traditions to fruition. Tata, how I wish you were here to cheer me on. I miss you so much. May everything I do make you and Mark proud. Volim te, Tata.
